Ogni Vie

Modern shoes forgot about feet. We didn’t. Most shoes squeeze right on your bunion. Ogni Vie leaves room around the joint and lets your toes spread out.

Description

An everyday walking shoe for bunions and wide feet: certified orthopaedic inside, normal-looking outside.

Room for your bunion. The toe box stays wide at the big toe joint, so the shoe leaves room around it.
No seams on the joint. A soft knit upper with no seams or stiff panels where your bunion sits.
Bends at the toes. The thin, flexible sole bends where your toes bend, not across your bunion.
Wide at the front, snug at the heel. Your toes spread out, the laces adjust over the top of your foot, and your heel stays put.
Flat sole. No heel lift. If you're used to thick cushioning, the first few days can feel different.

Unisex · sizes 36–47 · 8 colours. Check the size guide above.

Shoes are built wrong

Wide where it matters

Your toes are meant to spread and push off. Most shoes are narrowest at the toes and hold them together. Step after step, for years, the big toe is pushed inward and the big-toe joint takes the pressure, so your bunion hurts and keeps getting worse. Ogni Vie is widest at the toes, so they move again and the joint is left alone.

Ogni Vie: the foot inside the sole with room to spread at the toes. Normal shoes: no room to spread.

“most ‘normal’ shoes are quite narrow and squash the toes which cause pain, bunions and alter your balance”

In their words

What women with bunions say about the shoes

On bunion pain

I’m on my feet all day and my bunion doesn’t hurt.

I’ve worn these every shift since March. By closing time my bunion joint doesn’t hurt and the bunion hasn’t got any worse. The flat sole felt strange for the first few days. Now I can’t go without them.

Marianne T.Size 40, her usual size · bunion on the right foot

On buying online

I bought these expecting to send them back, and I didn’t.

I normally order a size up for my bunion and most pairs go back. This time I ordered my usual size and kept the box by the door. They fit first time.

Brigitte H.Size 38, her usual size · wide feet and a bunion

On walking again

I used to stop after half an hour. Last Sunday I did 7 km.

In town my feet used to hurt after half an hour. Last Sunday my sister and I did the lake path, 7 km in two hours, and my feet didn’t hurt once. The laces came undone twice, so I double-knot them.

Fifty-eight, wide feet since my second pregnancy, cupboard full of shoes I wore twice. These I've worn every day for five weeks. Nothing to report, which is the report. The khaki goes with everything.

I was sure the sole would be too thin. 5 mm, I measured it with a ruler because I didn't believe it. On pavement you feel the ground, yes. Not sore. Just there. Three weeks in and I think I'm walking differently. Softer somehow. Could be imagining it.

I've bought wide fit before and they're wide at the ankle and the same at the toes. These are the other way round. Snug at the heel, wide where my toes actually are. First time a shoe matched the shape of my foot rather than the other way.

My worry was they'd look like those big toe shoes, the ones that make feet look like boats. They don't. The front is rounded instead of pointed and that's it. My daughter borrowed them to walk the dog and asked where they were from.

Did the coast path, 14 km, first time out in them, which you're not supposed to do. Feet were tired but not sore, no blisters, no hot spots at the toes. My walking boots would have had my little toes bleeding. Bit of calf ache the next day.

First pair was a 37, too short at the big toe. Emailed, got a reply that evening with a label, posted it Monday and the 38 came Thursday. They paid the postage. The 38 is right. I've had worse service from shops I've used for years.

Bunion on the right foot, wide at the front on both. Took my usual 40. Nothing presses on the joint, which I can't say about any shoe I've bought in the last ten years, and I've bought a lot. Black ones. The laces are too long, I double-knot them.

I'm between sizes and went down to a 38 because the knit stretches, and it was right, so don't assume you need to go up. Comfortable, feel the pavement, took a few days. The pink is more of a dusty rose, which I prefer.

I'm 64 and my toes have been crossing over for years. First shoe where the little toe isn't tucked under the next one. Took them off at the end of the day and my feet weren't red. Small thing. Not small to me.

Fit is right, room for the toes, no rubbing. But I stood on a stone on the path by the river and felt it right through, and that's the sole, that's what you're buying. I keep them for pavement and the car. Three stars from me, might go up.

Retired, on my feet all day in the garden and the allotment. The wide front means my toes aren't crammed and the light weight means I forget I've got them on. Hosed the mud off and they dried by morning. Good enough for me.

What I notice is my toes move when I walk. Spread, then relax. I'd stopped noticing they didn't. I only clocked it because I went back to my old shoes for a wedding and my feet complained all evening.

Ordered 41, my usual, and they were tight across the top of the foot so I swapped for a 42. Email on the Tuesday, label back the same day, the 42 arrived the next week. Those fit. Four stars because I'd have liked the size guide to say high instep, go up.

Nurse, twelve-hour shifts, hard floors. I was nervous about the thin sole. The first shift my calves knew about it. By the third they didn't. My feet are less swollen at the end of a shift, I think, hard to be sure. What I can be sure of is I've stopped carrying a second pair in my bag for the drive home, which I'd done for about six years. The ward sister asked where they were from. She's ordered the grey.

Bunions on both sides, the left is the bad one. The upper is soft so there's nothing hard against the joint. I did a 9 km walk on the second weekend. No rubbing, not even at the heel, which is where my other trainers go. I'd ordered the khaki, which is greener than it looks on the screen, and then the black a fortnight later because my daughter kept taking the khaki. She's a 38, I'm a 39, she says they're fine, I say they're mine.

Honest downside: you feel gravel. Every stone on the drive. Not painful, just there, and I've got used to it, but it startled me the first week. Upside: my toes have room and my feet don't ache at night. On balance I'd buy again. Probably the khaki next time.

I'm 67 and I'd given up on trainers that didn't look like granny shoes. These look normal. Rounded at the front, that's all. My toes aren't squashed, my little toe isn't tucked under. I wear them to choir. The girl at the pharmacy, who's thirty if she's a day, has the same ones in pink, which tells you something. Took my usual 39. The knit went a bit loose over the first week and then stopped.

High instep, so I went up to a 40 on a hunch and it was right. The knit gives a bit over the top of the foot. Wore them to Lisbon, four days of hills and cobbles, no blisters. My husband's feet were in bits in his Nikes.

If you want cushioning, this isn't it. It's a thin sole and a flat shoe and that's the idea. I knew that and still took two weeks to stop missing the padding. Now my old pair feel like walking on pillows, in a bad way. Four stars, the laces annoy me.

Toe room is as described, I'll give them that. But the knit on the white already looks tired after a month and I don't think they'll last the winter. Comfortable, light, not built like a boot. Three stars. I'd buy the black and treat them as summer shoes.

Comfortable straight out of the box, no breaking in. I did the first day in the house because I'd read you should start slowly with these. Then the shop, then a long walk. The knit is soft against the big toe joint, which is the bit that usually hurts.

The shoe's fine, better than fine. My gripe is the tracking, which said delivered a day before it was, and the laces, long enough to trip over. Feet, though. Toes spread, heel stays, no rubbing on the big toe joint. Four stars until they sort the laces.

Questions

What if they don’t fit?

Exchange for another size or get your money back within 30 days, and we pay the return shipping. Try them at home on a carpet first, for as long as you like.

Which size should I order?

Ogni Vie follows standard EU sizing, 36 to 47 in whole sizes. If you’re between two sizes, we recommend the larger one.

Can I wear them in autumn and winter, with thick socks?

Yes, thick socks included. The knit is not waterproof; on wet days wear wool socks.

I’ve always worn arch support.

These shoes have no built-in support; your foot does that work. They suit people who want that. If you are unsure, start with an hour a day.

Do they take getting used to?

No, they’re built for comfort from the first wear. If you’re coming from years of thick, cushioned shoes, the first few days can feel different; most people stop noticing within a week.

How well made are they? Will they last?

An organic cotton knit upper on a caoutchouc sole, 235 g per shoe. You can wash them by machine or by hand and let them air-dry. If anything isn’t right, you have 30 days to exchange them or get your money back.

Can I use my own insoles?

Yes, there’s room for your own insole inside.

Are they for men too?

Yes. It’s a unisex shoe in sizes 36 to 47, the same shoe for everyone.
